While we have a lot of fishing to do, we also need to carve out some time for naturalist activities, such as hunting for gators. After studying the sat photos I have identified a promising gator watering hole. See the link below for route and photo (under route info, change to satellite view). What do you think?

The first map shows our usual route from Spring Creek Park. A long paddle with lmited fishing.
Spring Creek to oyster bar
The second map is from Coconut Point. There’s a marina at the end of Coconut Point Road; hopefully we could put in for free. The route is open water but it is a mile shorter. I think it’s worth a trip up 41 to check out.

I’m determined to explore the Estero River and Mound Key this year. If we go via the boat ramp at Koreshan State Park, it’s about 5.5 miles to Mound Key. I’ve found an alternative route which involves carrying the canoe 1/3 of mile via Estero Bay Reserve public access. This will save us two miles of canoeing! Check out the map I made using MapMyRun. http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/fl/bonita-springs/717877573922 Once the map opens, under route options, you can change the view to satellite view and zoom in for great detail. So what do you think? I plan on posting other routes, as well as links to tide tables and graphs, and fishing tips. We will catch some real fish this year! Ok, I will catch real fish.
